A blend of cultural conversations, community connections, and plenty of laughter.
"Dishes & Dialogue" was developed in collaboration with Chef Fhred and the OKIRU Collective to combine their shared passions for culture, storytelling and food.
-
Food is a flavourful journey to connect communities and share experiences. It allows us to express who we are, draws on the wisdom of our ancestors and nourishes our spirit.
Responsibilities:
Camera operator, audio engineer, editor & producer
Challenges:
The pilot episode was a learning experience for the team. We came in unprepared without expectation. One of the main challenges was preventing the roaming camera from being in the frame and having no clear zones in place.
With an unclear episode structure and topics in place, our co-hosts improvised for the majority of the episode forcing the episode to go over the expected 30-minute limit. This made it challenging to edit it into a cohesive episode without losing the story.
Since all the equipment is owned by each team member, 50% of the cameras use different colour profiles causing subtle colour differences in the final product.
Learnings:
Preplanning goes a long way! To keep us on track, I took the lead by clearly delegating roles and responsibilities, understanding the use case of necessary equipment and outlining the zones of the set. Using Confluence and Google Workspaces I organised spaces for the team to collaborate work and keep each other in the loop.
It's a continual work in progress, there's always something to work on and get better at. Plus when you give it your best, the results can surprise you; The pilot exceeded expectations and had some people thinking we were already a network show.

The "Dishes & Dialogue" mark was designed to be elegant, minimal and classy.
